I love watching my clients start new phases in their lives. Kari & Ted had a beautiful wedding back in January 2009 and when I met with Kari later that year to discuss her wedding album, I just knew that a baby was around the corner. It’s been fun to watch their roles change in life and I am always honored to help document these special moments. Since this portrait session Kari and Ted have welcomed their gorgeous daughter Emma into the world. They have so much to celebrate right now.
Kari thought I was a bit silly setting this photo up, but I enjoy the casual feeling it conveys. I can just imagine Kari relaxing on the comfy armchair with a warm cup of tea, chatting to Ted about how excited she is to meet the new Baby.
Years ago, back when I was in high school, I remember viewing the photographs submitted to the Del Mar Fair’s photo contest. There was one photograph in particular that left an impression on me. It was an image of a pregnant woman standing in a doorway completely back lit by a window. I remember feeling that pregnancy was both magical and beautiful. That image has stayed with me since then. In a way, I get that same sense of being pregnant in this photo.
Now it was Ted’s turn to join in on the fun.

We headed up to one of my favorite Open Spaces in Novato to do some more casual portraits.
