Occasionally I do get asked to photograph events that aren’t wedding related.  I always enjoy the challenge and the change of pace.  It’s fun to show up at press conferences and photograph from a purely editorial standpoint.  It’s so different from weddings and portraits!  This particular photo shoot took place up in Sacramento and was for an organization called AF Stat™: A Call to Action for Atrial Fibrillation.  According to their website (AF Stat) is a collaboration of health care leaders and organizations working to improve the health and well-being of people affected by atrial fibrillation (AFib). AFib is basically an abnormal heart rhythm and the AF Stat organization had been traveling to California to raise awareness for the heart condition.

Jerry West, former NBA All-Star (just one of his many accomplishments) and the man who is the logo for the NBA, lives with AFib.  He  was also traveling and working with AF Stat during the organization’s trip to California.  In addition to raising awareness for AFib, West was invited to speak at a press conference held by Mayor Kevin Johnson.  The press conference introduced the Mayor’s Task Force that he assembled for the planning of a proposed sports and events complex.  Jerry West and Mayor Johnson had a small meet and greet before the press conference, which in part probably found them reminiscing over their respective NBA days.  Here are a few of the images I shot during the day.

This was the meet and greet before the press conference.  Mayor Johnson was all smiles throughout the entire time.  I could sense he was excited and grateful to have West’s support for the sports complex he was proposing to build.
