I’ve been doing some major updating over here at Diana Casanova Photography.  Over the past year I’ve often felt that I needed to change up the photos on my website.  Let’s just say that it’s been on my “To Do” list for quite some time.  So I spent a few hours putting together a gallery of my favorite Wedding Photographs from 2010 along with an Engagement Session Gallery.  I wanted to include every couple I photographed professionally during the past year and feel pleased with the images I chose to represent my work for 2010.  But I didn’t feel like stopping there.  I decided that I need to find new images to replace the photos that appear when you first visit my website and the photos that are included in my website’s introduction.

This is where I got stuck.  I didn’t know which images to choose.  Then I came up with the perfect idea…..I am going to let you decide who should represent Diana Casanova Photography for this upcoming year!  Below I’ve posted the names and an image of each of the couples I photographed in 2010.  These photos represent an image I loved the most from each wedding.  It might be the lighting, the moment the bride and groom are sharing, or just the feeling I get from the photo, but all of these images can be categorized as my favorites.  Now it’s up to you to decide which one will represent my website.  You can cast your vote right here:  The Newlyweds of 2010

The winning couple will be featured on my website for the following year!  I will post a variety of photos from their wedding, which will play on the Splash/Introduction page of my site.  In addition, they will also receive a 16×20″ Canvas Gallery Wrap of their choice of image from either the Wedding or Engagement session.  The voting will close on 2.13.2011 and you can find out who won by checking my website on Valentine’s Day!

Shirene & Robby: Marin Art & Garden Center

I have experienced many weddings.   I am constantly excited to see how each couple designs and makes their own celebration unique, but there is very little that takes me by surprise anymore.  That was until I photographed Shirene & Robby’s wedding.  Nothing was predictable and I was constantly finding myself being taken off-guard.  It was an amazing wedding with many beautiful moments.

I loved how the lighting was streaming through the trees, so I asked Shirene to stop for a portrait.  My first reaction was to ask her mother to step out of the photograph, but then I realized that her presence was what I really enjoyed most about the image.

I don’t think I will ever tire of an all white bouquet.

I love everything about this image…the dress, the florals, the hair…Shirene you are stunning.

Robby awaiting “Show Time”.

I almost missed the Flower Girl coming down the aisle because of this hug.  I was so touched by the Ring Bearer and his father embracing when the little guy managed to walk down that aisle all by himself.

Which brings me to my first surprise of the day.  As my camera was pointed toward the Ring Bearer, I hear one of the guests say, “Quick!  Turn around!  Your missing it!”  I was horrified to say the least when I realized her instructions were directed at me and she was referring to the passing Flower Girl.  At that point, the Flower Girl stopped, stuck a pose and smiled for the camera.  I am not exaggerating when I say that the entire church erupted in laughter.  I can’t even imagine the shade of red my face had turned.  I’ve NEVER been in any way associated with the laughing that can take place during a couple’s ceremony.  It was a first for me.

Shirene & Robby signed their marriage license during the ceremony… another surprise.

How good it is to be in love.

Robby was so jazzed about the reception that I could barely get him to sit still long enough to capture his portrait.  Lucky for me he knows how to take a good photo.

The Bridesmaids dresses were fantastic!  Shirene found them at Anthropologie and they couldn’t have fit her celebration any better.

This dress has some serious character.

Cosmo Bar!  What a perfect idea.

There was no shortage of dancing or singing at this wedding.  At several points during dinner spontaneous dance parties seemed to crop up.  Now this is memorable – During dinner the DJ played Travis Tritt’s “A Great Day to be Alive”, at which point Robby began to belt out the lyrics, which then prompted about half the guests (and there were upwards of 200)to  sing along.  When the DJ follwed up with Garth Brook’s “Friends in Low Places”, well, that got Robby and Shirene out to the dance floor to warm up for their first dance.

Then there was Zac Brown Band’s “Chicken Fried”.  Right smack in the middle of dinner, the dance floor was instantly packed.  Phenomenal!  Never seen a group of guests so compelled to spontaneously break out into song and dance.

And then there was the Official First Dance.  I love capturing such pure happiness.

A traditional Father & Daughter Dance….

….was followed up by some fabulous Persian music & dancing.

And yes, that did lead to some hoisting of bodies onto shoulders.

Robby’s dad even got into the spirit!  What a party!

Could not have scripted a more awesome bouquet tossing photo.

Shirene & Robby – You two have created such a beautiful life together.  I am honored and humbled that you chose me to document such an important day of this life.  Thank you.

Second Shooter Photography: Kimberly & Mike

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted anything….what a crazy few months.  When I finally sat down this evening to write, I felt that I needed a warm up post.  Something to get me started again.  Kimberly & Mike’s wedding definitely fits the bill.  I was a second shooter at this wedding back in August, which I photographed with one of my dearest friends, Paulina, of Paulina Telderer Photography.  Kimberly and Mike are a gorgeous couple, had a beautiful ceremony (in a church that had an amazing amount of natural light!), and hosted a spectacular reception.  Seriously, you couldn’t script a better wedding.

Here are a few of the things that I enjoyed the most:

Arriving to the Ceremony in a Vintage Town Car.  Classic.

A Wedding Dress with some major Texture.

Crying.

I know brides never want to get weepy during their wedding day for fear of smudging makeup, but I’ve always maintained that when there are tears, there is a true feeling of that emotion.  I think it’s beautiful.

And of course I love laughter.

My Flash.

For the past four years I have been avoiding my flash for any type of photography where I could utilize natural light.  But at 1 p.m., on a clear day, with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, the only way I was going to get this image was to dust off my flash.  Thus a relationship was rekindled and it has everything to do with this image.

Rectangular Tables.

They have such a formal, yet inviting feeling to them.

A variety of centerpieces.

Chiavari Chairs and Florals.

I realize this must have cost a fortune, but look how gorgeous it is.

Cake Toppers.

At some point these little adornments lost their favor with many brides-to-be, but I love ‘em.  Especially when they say something about the bride and groom.

Alright.  That wasn’t as hard to write as I anticipated.  Hopefully there will be many more posts to come in the following days/months.  I’ve certainly been keeping quite busy and wouldn’t mind taking some time to reflect on my work.

Alison & Russ are Married!

I just got back from attending Alison and Russ’ wedding, and boy was it an event.  Rehearsal dinner on Thursday, Bachelorette Party on Friday, and Wedding on Sunday.  I am spent, but feel so happy for Alison and Russ.  It was wonderful watching my best friend getting to celebrate such a huge moment in her life.  I had a great time meeting new friends and catching up with old ones.

Unfortunately, I took so few photographs at their wedding.  It’s not possible for me to be Matron of Honor and still capture images.  But I did get to snap a few during the Rehearsal dinner and while Alison was getting ready.  Enjoy!

The Happy Couple practicing for the big day.

Alison made us practice the ceremony 3 times!

In true Seattle fashion it rained during the rehearsal.  Alison had picked out this white sundress and was concerned about wearing it in the rain.  When she paired it with some rain boots, it made a perfectly lovely combination.

Gorgeous Curls!

I love this image.

And this one too.

So pretty!

Congratulations A!  Oh, and you too Russ!  Have a wonderful honeymoon and I can’t wait to see all of the photographs.
