The days following a busy week are horrendous. Mountains of dirty dishes and laundry are piled high. Conversely, the refrigerator is completely empty. The dog hasn’t been walked, the cat needs her litter box changed, and my son needs some well-deserved attention. We came into one of these post-busy weeks and I was definitely in a funk. I do not function well in a disorganized environment, so needless to say it’s been a rather horrible week. We did however turn a corner yesterday. I woke up to a sparkling clean kitchen (many thanks to my husband) and the trash was emptied. I can not adequately express how much a clean kitchen can uplift my mood. Yes, I am OCD, this is something I already know about myself, but nonetheless it is how I am wired. Since the kitchen was clean, I felt ready to tackle the laundry, groceries, litter box, and the energetic (bordering on insane) puppy.
When we finally made it over to Trader Joes Grayson pointed out how beautiful the flowers were. He said, “Mommy, you need these pretty flowers.” Now I never usually buy plants or flowers because they inevitably end up being nibbled at by the cat, but when my 3 year old insists I deserve a $3.99 bouquet, I really can’t resist. We brought them home, placed them in my favorite vase (bought back in my CPSLO college days) and have thoroughly enjoyed how they brighten my mood. Despite this gray weather, I now have a touch of spring in my home.
While I was snapping this photo and pondering over what I would write on my blog, I was reminded of this book my Step-mom passed on to me about a year ago. It’s titled “Little Boy”, written by Alison McGhee & Peter H. Reynolds. It fits this post perfectly and I wanted to share an excerpt:
Little Boy, so much depends on……
your starship pajamas,
that story about llamas,
the way you don’t worry,
the way you won’t hurry,
and…
Your big Cardboard Box.
Little boy, you remind me how
so much depends on days made of now.
{Happy Friday!}
